Datacom System S.A. for MRD

The company Datacom System S.A. performed and deployed a state-of-the-art Internet informational portal for the recently established Ministry of Regional Development.

Information about current work of the Ministry is published on the portal, regional policy, prepared legal acts, and legal acts already passed are made available. The portal also contains a media service and an MRD Public Information Newsletter. In the scope of the works, additional functionalities were deployed, enabling the use of the portal through mobile devices and by handicapped persons. The RSS mechanism was also deployed. The portal is created using the content management system Microsoft Content Management Server 2002. The system also enables fast and trouble-free editing of the portal’s content even by persons, who do not have technical knowledge. Editing and approving published information can take place by many users simultaneously.

“We have divided the creation and deployment of the portal into stages. In the first stage we deployed the portal in its general shape. Then we allowed appointed users to fill it with content. Thanks to this, the company Datacom System could efficiently make successive versions of the portal available in the course of following weeks (mobile, for the handicapped), Public Information Newsletter and adapt it to the browser like Opera or Firefox. It is important that editing works on the portal do not require special abilities of editors, which causes the delivered and deployed tools by Datacom System to be willingly and effectively used." - said Małgorzata Kozyra, deputy Director from the General Ministry of Regional Development Director’s Office. Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 (MCMS) is a content management system enabling the management of pages (HTML content and multimedia files). Through the template mechanism of the MCMS system, it provides appropriate presentation of content to Internet users. An additional asset of MCMS is the clearly defined role which the system’s users can fulfil. The role mechanism provides adequate authorisation for access to the system and enables the realisation of primary procedures in publishing content on portals. Chosen substantial employees of the departments are assigned to author (creators of content) and editing/moderating roles (persons accepting whether the proposed content is compliant with the informational policy of the Ministry). Among others, due to the easiness in creating pages (editor similar to MS Word available through the Internet browser), using the system significantly accelerates and simplifies the publishing of essential information.
