Microsoft – Datacom Conference. Managing IT infrastructure.

On 27 November 2009, together with Microsoft, Datacom organised a conference dedicated to the subject of managing IT infrastructure. We directed invitations to specialists managing IT systems, as well as managers who make business decisions in the scope of IT and are interested in the development of the infrastructure towards the virtual environment.

At the meeting we discussed the most frequently occurring problems connected with maintaining and optimising the infrastructure, as well as presented tested scenarios of solutions on the basis of the latest server and system solutions, serving for efficient and secure management of the IT infrastructure.



From a wide field of management, we chose a few of the most recent issues in our opinion and divided them into thematic sessions:

• Various virtualisation aspects – facts, myths, difficult choices.
• Managing complex server systems in a heterogenic environment – work continuity, solving problems, spare copy.
• Full control over work stations – audits, software deployment, ensuring security.
• How to talk with business departments about investments? - costs, savings, reports.

We discussed the proposed solutions on the example of products from the company Microsoft.

We hope that the presentations prepared by the speaker – Michał Jędrzejczak and a live demo of Microsoft systems enables participants to better understand the plusses coming from using this software: work optimisation, infrastructure, reduction of costs of infrastructure management.

We are happy that the subject of the meeting aroused participants to discussion, especially stormy discussion when we touched on the matter of virtualisation and differences between Hyper-V and WMware. During the meeting we also presented arguments, which in our opinion may be helpful for convincing business departments for investing in an IT environment. Way to talk with a financial boss, who perceives many issues differently from a system engineer, will always be a good subject for discussion, regardless of whether the chosen IT solution of profession in which you work.
